A BOLD scheme to help support young people in their new job roles at a major Moray whisky producer have been unveiled.

A Sector Based Work Academy Programme is gearing up at Chivas Brothers Ltd which will underpin a number of new vacancies.

Jane Munro, a Forres-based employer and partnership manager with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), explained some of the background to the project.

"This is a joint initiative between, Chivas Brothers Ltd, Developing the Young Workforce Moray, Moray College UHI and DWP," she said.

"This is a Sector Based Work Academy Programme exclusively for 18-24-year-olds and consists of pre-employment training, guaranteed job interview and work experience.

"There are 12 places available on the pre-employment training and four customers will then move forward into a work experience placement, if successful this could lead to full time employment.

"For those customers not successful, we will work with other local employers to source work experience placements."

Awaiting the successful quartet are a role as a lab analyst, a distillery technician and two warehouse operator posts.

As part of the pre-employment training programme, three weeks' training will be included consisting of: First aid at work; Manual handling; IOSH working safely; Banksman training; COSHH.

Among the online awareness courses are environmental awareness, diversity in the workplace, bullying and harassment and customer service.

Employability skills sessions, which will be face-to-face seek to foster essential jobseeker skills such as teambuilding, CV preparation and interview skills.

Applicants ideally should have a driving license but this is not essential.

The scheme is open to any 18-24-year-old who is in receipt of benefits, and anyone to apply or would like more information would need to speak to their Work Coach in their local Jobcentre Plus.

Vacancies are now available and the closing date is Janiary 6, 2021.
