Maynes Coaches, of Buckie, scoop Moray Business Award at Chamber of Commerce’s Business Dinner at Gordon Castle
An annual business award has been given to a bus company in recognition of their “significant contribution” to their local community.
The Moray Business Award - handed out by Moray Chamber at their annual business awards dinner - was given to Maynes Coaches, which is headquartered in Buckie.
Founded in 1947, Maynes Coaches has grown into a well-respected global operator with a fleet of 45 vehicles and more than 70 employees.
Despite their global expansion, Maynes remains rooted in Moray and is keen to support and give back to its local community.
The bus firm sponsors Buckie Thistle Football Club and has made charitable contributions to organisations like the Linzee Gordon Community Playpark.
In 2023, Maynes became the first privately-owned coach operator in Scotland to achieve Earned Recognition and launched their luxury VIP and corporate fleet “Maynes Legacy” as part of a multi-million-pound investment.
Looking to the future, the company is aiming to introduce 12 zero-emission coaches, marking a significant step toward a greener transport sector in Moray.
The Moray Business Award was presented to Kevin Mayne - the fourth-generation director of Maynes - by Evan Scot and Garry Reaper.
Mr Mayne said: “As a family-run business that has operated in Moray for nearly eight decades, we are honoured to receive the Moray Chamber of Commerce Business Award.
“I am incredibly proud to reflect on our company’s journey, from a small coach operator started by my great-grandfather to a globally-recognised brand.
“This award is a testament to the hard work of our team and the loyal support of the Moray community.
“As we welcome the fifth generation into the business, we look forward to continuing to serve our local area and contributing to its success for many more years.”
More than 400 business representatives gathered at Gordon Castle for the 19th Annual Business Awards Dinner - the largest black-tie event in Moray - on Friday, September 27.
Sarah Medcraf, Chief Executive of Moray Chamber of Commerce, said: “Maynes Coaches is an exemplary local business, rooted in community values while embracing innovation and sustainable growth.
“Their contribution to Moray’s economy and their support of local causes is truly commendable, and they are very deserving of this year’s award.
“It’s fantastic to see how businesses in Moray continue to thrive, even in challenging economic climates, and Maynes Coaches stands as a shining example of that resilience.”
The event’s host and keynote speaker, Stuart Cassells, inspired the audience with his moving story of recovery.
Stuart shared his personal journey of suffering a stroke that left him unable to speak.
Less than two years later, he stood on stage, not only hosting the evening but also giving a captivating speech about overcoming adversity and achieving success in the face of challenges.
The dinner also raised funds for this year’s chosen charity, Erskine Veterans Charity, which provides vital care and support to former servicemen and women across Scotland.
Plans are now underway for the Festive Annual Awards Evening in December, where Moray Chamber will once again honour businesses of all sizes and sectors.
