Moray public phone boxes – BT proposing to remove eleven

BT is proposing to remove five red phone boxes and six other public payphones from across Moray.

The telecoms company has asked Moray Council for feedback about the plans. In turn, the local authority is calling on the public to give their views.

Community groups have the opportunity to adopt a red phone box for £1.

David Gordon (Speyside/Glenlivet, Conservative) chairs Moray Council’s planning committee.

He said: “This consultation gives communities the chance to highlight any ongoing value these phone boxes may provide, or to express an interest in adopting one for an alternative use.

“There are a number of examples of imaginative uses out there already and I would encourage people to share their views, to help inform our response to BT.”

Residents can take part in the consultation through an online survey HERE or by phoning 07976 235735.

Alternatively, you can write to Louise Dunn, Development Project Officer, Economic Growth & Regeneration, Moray Council, High Street, Elgin, IV30 1BX.

The consultation is open until Tuesday, May 27, and respondents should specify to which phone box or phone boxes they are referring.
