Moray fatal crash victim recovered from Mercedes-Benz near Elgin after car fire near A96
A person has been killed in a car crash and fire near a business park.
Police confirmed that a body was recovered from a silver Mercedes-Benz E280 which crashed on the Belts Road outside Elgin, near Starbucks and the town’s Travelodge, at 5.20am yesterday.
The unclassified road, between the A96 and B9103, was closed for investigations for more than 24 hours but reopened late last night (Tuesday, July 30).
Police have urged road users to contact them with any information and to check their dash-cams.
Sergeant Iain Nicolson said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing to anyone in the area at the time and who saw anything to get in touch.
“We are also asking road users to check their dash-cam and make contact with us if there is any information that could help with our investigation.
“Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0468 of Monday, July 29, 2024.”
After the crash, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that firefighters had extinguished a vehicle fire on the site.
The road has been closed for more than 24 hours and Police Scotland confirmed that only one vehicle was involved.
