A CARING youngster from a local school is putting her best foot forward to raise money for two charities close to heart.

Keira Simpson (9) of Dyke Primary School has organised a sponsored walk in aid of The Leanne Fund and The Archie Foundation.

The P4 pupil said: “I have been thinking about doing something for the charities for a while. I know how much The Archie Foundation looked after my brother and I know The Leanne Fund is important to my cousin and that is why I chose them."

Keira's cousin Emilia Hall (8) has cystic fibrosis and The Leanne Fund supports folk with the condition and their families.

Keira chose The Archie Foundation because her brother Callum, now six-years-old, was supported by the charity when he was a baby.

Keira has planned a five-mile uphill trek near Aviemore to raise funds with a number of friends and fellow pupils getting in step too.

She said: "I like walking my dog Sweep and it means it’s something I hope a lot of my friends and family will get involved in. My brother and Emilia are also doing it and that makes it even more special. My mum has helped me pick a route and we chose a walk near the Green Lochan at Glenmore. I am looking forward to it.”

Keira’s mum Denise is proud of her daughter.

She said: "The walk is nice a idea as anyone from all ages can get involved. The route is not that long but there is a 810m climb so it will be a challenge, particularly as many taking part are just young kids who want to support Keira."

Lorann Hall, Keira’s aunt and Emilia’s mum, added: "Keira and Emilia are very close and since Emilia was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis in February, 2018, she has been through a lot.

"Keira has been a good friend and cousin to her and they look out for each other. We are blown away by Keira’s efforts to raise money. We are all looking forward to taking part in the walk and raising as much money as possible for the two charities.”
