It was a case of close encounters of the fishy-kind for one Forres couple who contacted the ‘Gazette’ after they saw something suspicious swimming in the water, while they were out for a walk at Nairn.

John and Lindsey Ciolek who live at Bogton Road took photos of a rather big fish - which they thought might be a shark - swimming near the pier, not far from Nairn beach.

“We were just at the end of the pier looking down into the water when we saw it,” said John. “It was about a meter long, with eyes on top of it’s head.

He added that a group of about six people gathered to watch the large creature, which made an appearance, at about midday on Saturday, June 25.

Local experts confirmed to the 'Gazette' that it was a four foot long dog-fish and most definitely a member of the shark family.
