A VILLAGE community group has restored a local tourist attraction ahead of the holiday season.

Findhorn Residents Association (FRA) has had a fixed pair of binoculars that allow residents and visitors to enjoy a close up view of the bay mended - just in time for the Findhorn Fair.

FRA chairman Sam Russell explained the binoculars were vandalised and had to be removed shortly before the first Covid lockdown in March, 2020.

He said: “They were taken to specialists, Ffordes Photographic in Beauly, for repair and have now been re-instated on their base across from the war memorial. We are grateful to Ffordes for their generosity in not only arranging for repairs but also for funding a large part of the extensive work required. Thanks also to Findhorn resident, Donald Watson, who installed the restored binoculars onto a refurbished mount.”

The FRA was formed in the 1950’s to support groups and amenities around the village. It is also responsible for organising the annual fair, the income from which funds activities such as grass cutting, floral displays, repairs to the play park, public liability insurance, Christmas lights and more.

Mr Russell said: “The fair is the main source of income for the FRA. The pandemic led to cancellation for the last two summers so our funds are severely depleted. At the same time, we’ve seen unprecedented numbers of visitors coming to Findhorn to enjoy our lovely village and it’s beautiful scenery. We’re delighted to announce the Findhorn Fair will be back on the afternoon of Sunday, July 17.”
