A WRITER-led production company based in Alves is screening a local play for free during the coronavirus lockdown.

This Saturday night at 7.30pm, Right Lines Productions is streaming an immersive performance of comedy with a serious note, 'Rapid Departure', filmed at Rafford Village Hall in May, 2015.

Right Lines writer Euan Martin explained that it was the only filmed performance during tours in 2015 and 2016, and replaces a live performance of 'Man Shed' which was due to take place at the same venue on Saturday.

He said: "Our sponsor, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, was so impressed with the show that they arranged further funding which allowed us to re-tour. The second tour had a few cast changes and included actors David Rankine and Ross Allan, both originally from Elgin.

"However, the film version was of the original cast - James Bryce, Estrid Barton, Helen Mackay, Barrie Hunter and Ewan Donald."

The plot features a freak flood washing through the area, forcing the locals to the safety of the village hall, the designated Emergency Rest Centre. Plunged into the fraught world, the evacuees and officials grapple with the ever-deepening crisis both outside the hall, and in.

The original show was limited to a maximum audience of 100 to create an intimate, interactive atmosphere. The actors move between the attendees and around the hall throughout the performance.

A number of venues and networks have agreed to book the show on Right Lines' first ever virtual tour of five dates.

Mr Martin said: "We wanted to make a contribution to the theatre offering which is now available online. It's the same company date and time, a different show and a very different way of presenting a performance, but hopefully it will be an enjoyable evening in at the theatre!"

To watch the performance, email raffordvillagehall@gmail.com with your names and 'Rapid Departure' in the subject line by Friday, April 24. A free link will then be sent to click on from 7.15pm on Saturday, April 25.
