DO you need funding to help you create art?

The Adriana Sjan Bijman Artist Support Fund is inviting artists to apply for its second round of awards having supported three projects with a total of £2000 in the first round.

Fund administrator Pat Ellison confirmed a variety of work is already making good use of the support.

She said: "In December, Adriana's bequest was used to make three grants, all to local women. In all three cases, the grant will enable a change of life direction."

One applicant is a visual artist and wanted assistance with the costs of workshops. The second person is a poet working on nature-based themes combining poetry with music and performance; in her case, the grant is to support poetry workshop and residency costs. The third grantee is interested in performance art, with music, dance and light. Her work is collaborative and has an overseas dimension which her grant will support.

Pat added: "It is splendid that Adriana’s legacy has been able to support this. The grant period began in January so there is an unavoidable issue at the moment if people need to travel etc. But we are in touch with all three and have confidence that they will continue to grow in their art in the longer term."

Adriana Sjan Bijman was a photo-artist and writer who lived on the Moray Firth for over 20 years. On her death in 2017, she left instructions for an artist bequest to support and nurture local artists.

The resultant fund supports the development of artists working in any medium. It is administered by the New Findhorn Association and open to anyone resident within 50 miles from Universal Hall, The Park, Findhorn.

Application forms, which should be submitted by mid June, are available from pat.ellison1947@gmail.com or by post from Pat Ellison, St Crispin’s, 9 South Street, Moray, IV36 1DE.
