Tweed are providing the music and shout-outs for a Christmas ceilidh at Forres Town Hall
A call-out is being made for dancers in Christmas jumpers to attend a town hall ceilidh in aid of good causes.
Dance Band Of the Year nominee Tweed - AKA former accordion world champion Graeme Mackay and his son, drummer Craig - are playing at Forres Town Hall from 8pm on Saturday, December 28 - making the call-outs at the fundraiser for Forres Area Community Trust (FACT) and the pair’s community music project.
Graeme said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Forresians to extend the use of their festive jumpers, as well as enjoy the superb facilities on their doorstep!
“The period between Christmas and New year is an ideal time to come together and find company. We have a great programme of music with something for everyone.”
Tweed are the latest musicians in their family line. The Mackays are the third and fourth generations of the dynasty that goes back to 1957 when Graeme's grandfather Jim started the band in Caithness with his brothers Nichol and George.
Numerous members have played since including Graeme's father Tom, who was in the band for over 40 years.
“Our ceilidh pedigree genes run strong,” said Graeme. “Everyone will be sure to have a great night with us!”
Proceeds from raffles and fundraising games on the night will be split between town hall custodians FACT and Tweed’s Bahamas Accordion project, which gives young people in the Caribbean access to traditional music.
Funds raised via a licensed bar will also boost FACT’s funds.
Tweed will play instrumental covers and freestyle tunes, as well as popular ceilidh and Scottish country dances.
Graeme also runs the Caledonian Ceilidh Club at the Carlton Hotel on the first Thursday of the month, providing dance learning opportunities for attendees.
Everyone is welcome to the town hall event, where tickets priced at £15 can be bought from town hall reception in person or from www.ceilidhcabin.com. Under-12s go free.
“We will also have a contest for the best Christmas dress,” finished Graeme. “Just a bit more festive fun!”
