Forres Area Community Trust runs quiz nights in aid of Forres Town Hall

Six teams battled for intellectual supremacy during a fundraising contest in aid of renovating a historic High Street building.

A total of 33 players took part in the second Forres Area Community Trust (FACT) quiz at Forres Town Hall on Saturday, January 18, hosted by quizmaster Graham Watson and raising £200 towards phase two of its regeneration.

FACT development manager, Lorna Creswell, ran raffles from the lesser hall during the event where finance manager Audrey Boyd and secretary Tina Coffey manned a licensed bar.

"There was a great atmosphere," said Lorna, "and lots of laughs!"

FACT operations manager Nick Clark confirmed up to six players are allowed in the quiz teams answering questions about geography, pictures, music, sport and general knowledge.

He said: "Scores are tallied up throughout the rounds and the team with the most at the end wins.

"The winners team gets £50 and runners-up £25 with booby prizes of FACT mugs with chocolate in them for those with lowest points."

Dave's Squares were the winners - brainbox Lainey Stokes was delighted to be part of the team.

She said: "We made a great recovery from being last in the running to actually winning - we were all pleasantly surprised!

"It was a great night - well presented with a good variety of questions and friendly banter. We will definitely be at the next one."

Nick added: "This was a very sociable event for a worthwhile cause. Someone described it as more of a show than a quiz because of the added entertainment from the host!

"We have no date set at the moment but we are looking to run another around April or May."
