129 cases of coronavirus and one death confirmed within last week in Moray

A TOTAL of 129 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Moray within the last seven days, taking the area's total since the outbreak began to 673.

The number is up one on the 128 cases confirmed in last Wednesday's update.

Last Thursday, the death of a Moray resident who had tested positive for Covid-19 was confirmed – taking Moray's death toll since the outbreak began to 23.

Of those 23 deaths, 15 came within four weeks of a positive Covid-19 test, while the virus was mentioned on the death certificate of a further eight people.

There has been a small increase in the testing numbers across the area, with 598 negative tests having been returned by Moray residents since January 6. In the week prior, 595 negative tests were returned.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 10,480 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began. That's an increase of 1303 on the 9177 reported last week.

Moray neighbourhood update

Seventeen different 'neighbourhood areas' in Moray had at least three confirmed cases of coronavirus at the Scottish Government's last update.

The Keith and Fife Keith neighbourhood area is the worst hit in Moray, with 33 cases.

Elgin, which is split into six neighbourhood areas, has a total of 29 cases (12 in New Elgin East, seven in Elgin Bishopmill East and Ladyhill, six in Elgin Cathedral, Ashgrove to Pinefield and four in New Elgin West).

Buckie has 14 cases (10 Buckie West and Mains of Buckie, four Buckie Central East), Forres has 11 cases (eight in Forres South West and Mannachie, three in Forres Central East and seaward) and there are six confirmed cases in Lossiemouth.

A number of other areas have positive cases. These are as follows: South Speyside and the Cabrach 11; Cullen, Portknockie, Findochty, Drybridge and Berryhillock 10; Heldon West, Fogwatt to Inchberry 8; Findhorn, Kinloss and Pluscarden Valley 7; Rural Keith and Strathisla 5; Burghead Roseisle and Laich 5 and North Speyside 4.

Scotland-wide update

Today's daily update shows 1949 people in Scotland have tested positive for coronavirus overnight, with 79 deaths of people who tested positive for the virus confirmed.

During the week ending January 13, 52,850 people were newly-tested with 14,306 testing positive for the first time. The week prior, 50,089 people were newly-tested with 16,235 positive.

Since the outbreak began, 1,467,614 people in Scotland have been tested at least once, with 155,372 positive and 1,312,242 confirmed negative.

During the week ending January 10, 384 deaths were registered where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Since the outbreak began, 7704 people across Scotland have died. A total of 5102 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19.

A total of 134 people are in intensive care in relation to Covid-19, with 1794 patients in hospital.

In total, 9892 patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 have been released from hospital since March 5.
