Storm Bert forces Inverness-Elgin train cancellations, ScotRail confirms

Storm Bert has forced the cancellation of 10 trains between Inverness and Elgin after speed restrictions were brought in.

The 11.44am, 1.30pm, 4.22pm, 6.58pm and 8.37pm Inverness to Elgin trains have all been cancelled.

As too have the 12.36pm, 2.25pm, 6.02pm, 8.24pm and 10,.15pm Elgin to Inverness services.

Confirming the cancellations, ScotRail said that they were "due to a speed restriction because of severe weather”.

A number of Inverurie-Aberdeen trains are also affected on that line for the same reason.

However, some services will continue to run the full length of the line between Inverness and Aberdeen, meaning all stations will continue to be served - just at a reduced rate than normal. Some of those trains were also have fewer carriages than usual.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north, ScotRail has also warned passengers on the Far North Line that trains will not run between Georgemas Junction and Thurso after midday today (including trains that set off before that time). Bus replacements will operate instead ferrying passengers to Georgemas Junction from Thurso, and vice versa.

Trains from Inverness to Wick and in the other direction will otherwise run as normal - albeit with speed restrictions in place.

Again this disruption is due to speed restrictions on the line.

Trains on the Kyle Line and Highland Mainline were not showing any cancellations at the time of writing.
