FORRES St Lawrence Cricket Club pavilion is to be upgraded thanks to wind power.
Berry Burn Community Fund awarded £5000 to the club for refurbishment of the building at Grant Park that is used by other local groups and events including Forres Highland Games, Forres Harriers, Piping At Forres and Forres Theme Day.
“St Lawrence Cricket Club is delighted to receive the grant from Berry Burn,” said secretary Carolyn Farr. “The process was quite simple and the Trust were helpful and approachable.
“The pavilion’s upper floor is currently just loft space but when it was built it was designed with the possibility in mind of creating a room upstairs.
“We will be carrying out work throughout the summer but it may be the end of the year before it is compete.
“The money will also help with external maintenance.”
The club want to upgrade the facilities to bring them into the 21st century and it is hoped that further funding will be made available to finish the job.
“We aim to develop a girls-only group this year,” explained Mrs Farr. “Currently the building has no specific toilet for girls so we will be remedying this.
“It is our aim to share the pavilion as much as possible at a reasonable nominal rent.
“Because of the size of the project we will need to seek further funding but we think that the benefits of the changes, not only for ourselves but also other groups who use the building, will persuade other funders to back us.”
She added: “The Berry Burn money will get us well on our way but I believe we would require a similar sum to achieve our aims.”
