Although Dyke and Logie primaries were absent from the tournament for Forres Primary schools, the park echoed to the sound of more than 80 children, plus teachers and parents enjoying the sun and highly competitive cricket.

The Forres festival is one of five which take place annually in Moray as part of Cricket Scotland’s National P6 Primary schools tournament, sponsored by Scotrail.

Teams from each of these festivals progress to the Moray Area Finals Day at Buckie CC with the winners taking part in the National Finals Day in Perth on June 14. The Forres festival supplies three teams to Moray Finals Day and this year Alves, Anderson’s and Applegrove will each send teams.

In recent years the Forres festival concluded once the three successful teams had been found but, for the first time, this year’s festival had to find a winner for the Forres CC President’s Cup.

And Applegrove Primary beat Anderson’s in the festival’s first cup final.

Every player received a certificate of participation and a year’s free membership of the club’s junior section, the winning team also received a winner’s medal and the cup; the inaugural winners were Applegrove.

Forres CC’s president Mike Roberts said: "Tanks to everyone for making the day such a remarkable success. The standard of play and commitment was a delight."
