The event, which is the largest children’s sporting occasion in Moray, attracted 770 runners to Lossiemouth High School.

Anderson’s and Applegrove Primary Schools both stepped up to the occasion claiming a number of top prizes.

Abigail Ferry (Anderson’s) was well out in front in the junior girls’ race, ahead of classmate Sophie Howard, who was second, and the pair helped their school to take the team prize.

Elgin triumphed in the boys (P4/5) race with Joe Edwards winning for Greenwards primary, a short distance in front of Ben Ross (Applegrove) who led his team to victory.

Both P6/7 races were won by east schools, as Zara Gill (Cullen) and Bruce Newlands (Millbank) couldn’t be caught.

Again Applegrove were team winners in the boys, while West End (Elgin) took the girls’ team honour.

Active Schools manager John McMulkin said: "I’d particularly like to recognise the efforts of the PE teachers in working with the schools to select and train teams in the run-up to the event, and at the event itself – a great example of partnership working."

The competition has provided a strong link between Moray schools and local running clubs for many years.
