Look out for Santa's sleigh on our streets

Santa sleighHO, ho, ho ... can you help Father Christmas on his Forres run this year?

Santa is touring our streets on his sleigh during the evenings this week, listening to the wishes of all boys and girls while handing out oranges and raisins.

Volunteer organiser, Rotary Club of Forres, is appealing to the community to get involved.

President Sheena MacGillivray confirmed that around 10 volunteers are needed to man and follow the sleigh with collection buckets.

She said: “The children love it when we visit and their excitement makes it all worthwhile.

“Santa speaks to all the children that come forward and asks them what they want from him while the volunteers walk behind his sleigh to ensure everyone’s safety. Helpers are always needed.”

Rotarian Carlo Miele also loves being part of the annual event.

He said: “We enjoy seeing all the little faces out to meet Santa. It is very rewarding.

“We will always need more volunteers as Forres continues to grow.”

Ancillary pieces of equipment required for all public Rotary events, including the fireworks display, is currently stored in Rotarian’s garages, while Santa’s sleigh is stationed at Kinloss Barracks.

“We need to find a new place to store all of the equipment,” said Sheena. “Unfortunately we do not have the funds to buy one. We hope someone will come forward with the offer of a storage container.”

Santa’s routes through the area are: December 11, Northside, Kinloss; December 12, Southside, Kinloss; December 13, Pilmuir, Councillors Walk; December 14, Thornhill, Grant Place, Noah’s Ark area; December 15, Knockomie, Balnageith Rise; December 16, Knockomie Gardens, Falconer Avenue, dentist area.
