Tomintoul and Glenlivet is aiming to gain international status as the world’s most northerly Dark Sky Park.
Residents are being invited to take part in a ‘lighting amnesty’ on Saturday in order to provide a better view of the stars.
The amnesty involves people bringing along a photo of their existing outdoor lighting on Saturday.
If required, they will then receive free replacements.
The aim of the amnesty is to reduce light pollution.
Family activities will also be taking place, including a Star trek galaxy treasure hunt around the village, live bottle rocket launches and a Dark Skies photography exhibition.
The Dark Skies Project is part of the Tomintoul & Glenlivet Landscape Partnership – a £3.6million programme to boost the area.
The launch event is taking place on Saturday from 3pm-5pm based in the Square, Tomintoul.
