THE SCOTTISH Parliament has recognised the achievements of volunteers in Forres.
Highlands and Islands Regional MSP Rhoda Grant and her colleagues at Holyrood passed a motion congratulating the Forres in Bloom (FIB) team on securing a first in the Britain in Bloom ‘Town’ category.
The wording also mentioned the team’s gold award win and discretionary award for overcoming the challenges involved when Moray Council withdrew its support for FIB activities in 2013.
Ms Grant said: "This great team of volunteers took over the previously run council greenhouses in Grant Park Forres, bringing on and growing more than 30,000 plants of their own.
"I just cannot emphasise enough how much hard work and endeavour it takes to create Motion mentions FIB at Holyrood and maintain the floral displays in Forres and the fact that the work is all done by volunteers is frankly remarkable.
"What they have achieved in their work is a magnet for tourists to come and visit the town thus boosting the local economy. Well done to all."
FIB has a dedicated group working every week throughout the year. The Sunday Squad meet every week from 11am-4pm.
Several FIB members adopt areas of the town and individual owerbeds to maintain in their own time.
