Moray businesses, social, voluntary and community groups are mobilising at a ‘Fresher’s’ Day’ event at Kinloss Barracks tomorrow (Thursday) to showcase themselves to Forres’ newest residents - the soldiers and families of 39 Engineer Regiment.

39 Engineers are now fully operational, and around 600 personnel including 170 families who have made their homes in Moray. The community-wide event is being organised by the Regiment with the help of community partners.

Staff Officer Sel Williams, commented: “Most of our personnel and their families are new to the area. We’ve experienced a very warm welcome to Moray and our families are already saying what a great place it is. This event will be an excellent opportunity to further introduce personnel and their families to local clubs, societies and local employers and businesses. There are a wide range of activities available to local people, as new workers, members and also as volunteers.”

A range of employers from the area will be at the event.

Andrew Anderson of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) who has assisted with contacting local companies, said: “HIE and Moray Chamber of Commerce would like to give 39 Regiment and their families the opportunity to meet some of the Moray businesses which are key employers in the area. As well as husbands, wives and children of personnel, we also hope that in the longer term those leaving the armed forces will choose to settle in Moray too.”

Freshers’ Day will be held in the Gymnasium at Kinloss and will be open from 10.30 am until 3.30 pm.
