A HGV fire on the Forres bypass caused a closure on the A96 this afternoon.

The fire brigade were alerted to the fire at around 2pm, sending two appliances to the scene, with police also in attendance to control traffic.

The road was reopened just after 3.30pm.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1.59pm on Monday, October 24, to reports of a road traffic accident involving a HGV trailer unit, with one tyre on fire on the A96 at Forres.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire and crews remain at the scene making the area safe.”
