Tickets are now on sale for an event to celebrate 100 years since the park in the centre of Forres was gifted to the town.

Grant Park 100 will take place on Saturday, August 24 and early bird tickets are going on sale tomorrow (Wednesday, May 1).

The one-day event is being organised by Forres Events Ltd (FEL), the company behind the hugely successful Piping At Forres.

FEL director Alan James said: “We are delighted to have launched our ticket sales. Grant Park 100 will celebrate the park and its value to the community since it was gifted to the town.

“Committed are working hard to bring together an entertaining schedule to ensure that everyone has a great day out. Events will nod to activities that have been in Grant Park over the years, such as a cavalcade of cars from throughout the decades, and a mini Highland Games with a twist.

“There will also be entertainment that acknowledges the wider Forres area and everything it has to offer.”

Grant Park 100 will include arenas with demonstrations and competitions, with a focus on family fun. There will also be have-a-go activities, marquees with exhibitions, displays and trade stalls.

There will be live music and entertaining talks with award winning Forres business AES Solar bringing an interactive science tent to the event.

There are also plans to celebrate the significant milestone with everyone singing happy birthday to Grant Park as part of the lively schedule.

The event acknowledges that Alexander Grant - Forres man and inventor of the Digestive biscuit - gifted the park to the people of Forres in 1924.

Early-bird tickets are now available from TicketSource.

Alan added: “We would have loved to have been able to make Grant Park 100 free to enter, but staging an event of this scale, and ensuring it is memorable and safe, means investing in services and ensuring we are compliant with local authority regulations.

“We have done our best to keep ticket prices low and hope that people will enjoy the many free activities that will be available.”

As well as being for sale on-line, the Grant Park 100 team plans to have hubs at different locations in Forres where people can buy tickets directly and with cash if they wish.

Joanna Taylor, a director of FEL, said: “The first event where people can buy tickets in person will be at a talk on Sir Alexander Grant on June 1. It is being held in the Tolbooth in collaboration with Friends of the Falconer Museum and Forres Heritage Trust.”

She added: “We are very grateful to our sponsors and funders including the Berry Burn Community Fund and Awards For All for tier support which has enabled us to offer these prices.”
