Sir, – With reference to the story about the old supermarket site ("Gazette", November 12), I have to say the idea looks wrong.

There can be no doubt the site should be utilised for the benefit of the town, but Forres does not want or need a fourth supermarket, and suggesting a restaurant is an insult to the excellent new restaurants that we have in and around the town. Did the proposers give any thought to the needs of Forres or is this just another money-making exercise by a developer? I suspect the latter. The old William Low and Tesco supermarket site on Gordon Street would have made an ideal place for a new community hospital. That is what it needs to be used for. The site chosen for our new health facilities at Thornhill Farm is ridiculously inadequate, and the local area needs to make that clear. Develop Bogton Road/Gordon Street for sure, but please not for the crackpot plan we have been reading about. – Yours etc, ISOBEL DUGUID (Mrs), Kintessack, Forres |
