Sir, – Now that the pavilion for the Soccer Sevens and Grant Park Bowling Club has been completed, after a long drawn-out hassle, I would like to ask a question.

I wonder why the "powers-that-be" had to dig a huge hole in Grant Park to construct the building for the two clubs?

The Grant Park was gifted to the townspeople of Forres by the late Sir Alexander Grant. Were the people of Forres notified of such an excavation?

Having been involved in construction work as site foreman on half-million and million-pound projects, I thought easier and less excavations, and therefore less cost, could have been carried out.

Going westwards from the existing bowling club building, approximately 36 metres, and 11 metres in width, instead of back into the park, would have been simpler. A shorter route to South Street with the sewer line and the services to the new building, in the same track, with some fill to cover the independent services, would have been easier. It would have saved crossing the right of way,

And three sports clubs in this area, and no mention of parking?

The bowling club was left with no changing accommodation or toilet during the contract, and were very grateful, indeed, for the help they received from the cricket club and also from RAF Kinloss.

The site agent for the contractors had some other ideas, but alas, he had to "flow with the tide".

I wonder if any of the "powers-that-be" would have built a home overshadowed by two ugly trees?

It's obvious that brains and common sense are very scarce. I experienced many snags in my construction life, but got over many by using "The Common". – Yours etc,

GEORGE ANDREWS (And many citizens and bowling members), (Address supplied).
