THE community is invited to a free outdoor gym use session on Monday evening.

Forres Community Sports Hub is inviting locals to try the new £72,000 outdoor gym behind Forres Academy which includes multi-station and multi-user equipment for a full body workout.

Hub chairwoman Ann Rossiter led the fundraising for the facility which opened in December, 2023.

She said: "We’re so pleased with the response since the launch of the gym.

"It’s wonderful to be able to offer a high-quality asset that’s free for anyone to use, especially during the cost of living crisis.

“It’s been encouraging to see people of varying ages use the gym equipment. Hopefully with the longer days and warmer weather we’ll see more people enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits."

She added: “Cardiovascular exercise for older people is important for health - regularly lifting light weights helps maintain bone density and reduces the risk of osteoporosis.

“The gym is a useful resource for younger users too - strength and conditioning needs to be part of any sports training programme.”

Moray Council leader, Kathleen Robertson is also delighted to see the positive response to the gym.

She said: "It is truly a wonderful addition to the community. Thank you to Forres Community Council and Forres Community Sports Hub for making this all possible.

"It’s especially pleasing that the gym can be used by individuals with disabilities. An arm bike, accessible from a seating or standing position, offers cardiovascular training to those with less lower-body mobility."

Cllr Robertson encourages anyone thinking about using the gym to pop along to the session on Monday.

She finished: "It’s a great way to learn more about the equipment and get started using it.”

Guidance will be provided on Monday, April 22 between 7pm and 8pm.

A crowdfunder has been set up at https://www.gofundme.com/f/forres-community-outdoor-gym to fundraise for the gym’s running costs.
