MEMBERS of a local youth organisation have been washing cars to fund a trip to London to take part in a Royal event.

Six youngsters from 2nd Forres Boys’ Brigade cleaned a fleet of vans at AJ Engineering (AJE) and Construction Services, earning £500 towards attending the Trooping of the Colours in June.

Captain and Moray Battalion president Moray Battalion Graeme Ferguson confirmed the group was invited to the event which takes place in the presence of King Charles III on June 8, but with the trip costing £3000 they have requested sponsorship and support from local businesses.

Graeme said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the support we’ve received. We’ve been very lucky.

“In our 10-year history, this is the first time we’ve had to do any formal fundraising like this - the community has been so supportive.”

The BBs approached AJE and it was suggested that the boys could do a bit of graft in exchange for a donation.

“They were happy to oblige and we can’t thank them enough,” said Graeme.

“We’re looking forward to London. The Boys’ Brigade have a stand there and we were invited to put our name in a ballot to attend.

“As well as attending the Trooping of the Colour, we hope to have a bit of down time too and maybe organise an open top bus ride. It’s a flying visit so we will be cramming it all in.”

The lads attended the AJE HQ at the Greshop Industrial Estate with general manager and company director Graham Alexander.

Graham said: “It was great to welcome the boys and AJ Engineering is pleased to help towards the cost of this worthwhile trip.

“It was great to hear how excited the youngsters are about the visit and it’s always nice to see a group with a good work ethic.

“The boys worked hard and did a great job. Employees who use the vehicles were very pleased when they returned to work!”
