FRIDAY the 13th will be a lucky day for an up and coming artist or group who will be given the opportunity to showcase their talents at one of the summer's hottest music festivals.


Joe Gibbs of Belladrum and RockNess. SOME of the movers and shakers behind the Highland music scene will take part in an Inverness eventnext month looking at their work. The free discussion will explore what inspires and challenges the what inspires and challenges the professionals who organise events, promote acts and work to develop the music business in this area. The Beyond Creativity event, run by the University of the Highlands and Islands, will feature a panel of North industry experts.

A TV slot for Top 10 pop-rap duo Rizzle Kicks means they have postponed their Inverness Ironworks date until February 28. Originally planning to play their sell-out show on Wednesday, Jordan "Rizzle" Stephens and Harley "Sylvester" Alexander-Sule have been invited to appear on TV.

WHEN the Scottish Ensemble asked award-winning composer Luke Bedford to write a new piece of music for the company, he might have been forgiven for hesitating. This was not just any new piece, but a new work designed to be a companion piece to Mozart's much loved "Sinfonia Concertante".

South's Inverness gig rallied

SOMETIMES a gig's about something other than the music and however great the music and the songs in the set, it's about the interplay between the musicians up onstage. THE SOUTH's Ironworks gig on Ironworks gig on Monday night was one of those. But the reward at the end of it was that you felt you'd been on an emotional rollercoaster that took us to a happy place in the end.

Richard Macintyre WHEN Skye band Stereoglo called it a day a few years ago, frontman Richard Macintyre returned briefly with a solo project, disappeared - and has now spread his wings again as Siiga. Richard returned to Skye for inspiration, though he now also spends time in Glasgow. Siiga is the latest guise of a man who likes the DIY approach to music.

INVERNESS musician James Mackenzie is heading back to school for his next batch of dates - with five Inverness schools to get a live set from the much-tipped Highland artist. James, who has just released debut solo mini-album Curtain Road will tour across the UK to support it later in the year, but first includes his own former school on his latest giglist.
