I'M going to stick my neck out in the Sussex Stakes and conclude there is a good chance Frankel could win again.
In truth I'm surprised he is even 1/16 in places, I can think of better ways to lose money than laying Frankel but I would have thought 1/66 was more like it, so if you've millions to spare lump on at the current prices! As exciting as it is to see him on the track it is a hollow looking contest and this should be a step to something different now as he'll have the Juddmonte in sight in three weeks time hopefully. With some more open looking contests on the rest of the card hopefully we can go one better than Taajub on Saturday with some of my other selections.
2.00 Goodwood Stakes
Not the best race to kick the day off but I'd be hopeful of another good show from Romeo Montague. On his latest two outings he's looked an improved horse since he's been upped in trip. This doesn't however come as a surprise as he has been looking a bit one pace for a while now at middle distances. He's proven his stamina with big run in the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot, he had no chance with the winner that day but ran a massive race back in third place and with this not looking the strongest looking contest he has a big chance of continuing the recent improvement he has shown.
2.35 Vintage Stakes
I'm a big fan of Olympic Glory and I think he's a huge chance of following up his recent success in the superlative stakes. Though Birdman put him under some serious pressure close home, he travelled and quickened like the best horse in the contest all the way and it was only in the final stages that he was starting to paddle slightly and I just put that down to being tired given it was his first attempt at seven furlongs and the ground conditions were appalling. I think back on better ground even with the penalty he will stamp his class on this field, he has the added bonus of already having won at the track and the yards going very well coming into a meeting they consistently do well at and I still believe there is more to come from Olympic Glory and he will be hard to beat.
Another Goodwood race and another Hannon horse that looks interesting in the shape of Rule Book. He was on top late in a handicap at Salisbury but I thought it was quite a strong performance in nodding out an improving Stoute horse, he had Last Shadow back in third place that day who won next time out which should only affirm Rule Book's superiority. He's been a steady improver and with his latest outing his best yet I think he'll take another step forward in this competitive looking handicap.
