YOUNG artists have been showing off artwork they created during special Life Drawing Classes held over three years at Moray Art Centre.
The classes were given to students from secondary schools across Moray, who have expressed a desire to attend art school and would need to include life studies in their portfolios.
Moray Art Centre Director Randy Klinger said that last year – as a direct result of the classes – three Moray students gained entry into portfolio building courses with one accepted in to the Fine Art Degree course at Moray College.
“It was a worry when these classes were in danger of stopping due to council cut backs,” he said. “Thankfully Moray Banff and Badenoch Decorative and Fine Arts Society (MBBDFAS) stepped in to help by sponsoring six weeks of Life Drawing classes and an exhibition for the young people.”
The Secondary Schools Life Drawing exhibition was opened with a private view on Tuesday, November 1 for parents, teachers and MBBDFS members, with Chairman Mrs Sarah Fennings-Mills presenting Moray Art Centre with a cheque to cover the cost of the course and a special exhibition of the work which is on until Saturday, November 26.
The six week course was attend by twelve pupils, aged 16-17 from various Moray seconday schools including Forres.
Mr Klinger said that Moray Art Centre’s Young Person’s Programme has always been at the heart of the centre’s work and the Life Drawing Classes are an example of how they can give participants an opportunity to obtain knowledge, skills and confidence.
