Film Forres is back

Beauty beast“COME into the light!”

Beauty and the Beast 2017 launches Film Forres’ annual programme this month, offering local families a genuine cinematic experience in their home town.

As the nights draw in, a HD cinema screen, surround sound, theatre seats and refreshments are sure to attract audiences to Forres Town Hall on Friday and Saturday evenings until next Spring.

Organiser Margaret Cowie confirmed 191 youngsters and 46 adults attended at least one show during the last season.

She said: “We had a very good 2016/17 but due to the rising hall let, insurance and licensing costs, we made a loss of more than £400 so have had to increase the entry donation to £1 for all ages.”

Film Forres launched in 2010 when a project to provide a Friday night cinema club for young people aged during the winter months grew in popularity. Volunteers raised £42,000 for a refurbished balcony area at the town hall, cinema equipment, a multimedia sound control panel and 220 new seats.

Membership cards are still issued to all young people who attend and adults can buy a season membership card which entitles them to free entry for any subsequent film.

All Fridays showings start at 6.30pm, and 7pm on Saturdays.

Co-organiser Bob Hellyer explained that the volunteers face costs of £50 per-show to Moray Council.

He added: “To date we have concentrated on films for a younger generation and accompanying parents.

“We would like to expand to include teenagers but have not been convinced this would be supported.

“Like most other things, we remind everyone to use it or lose it.”

The first screening of fortnightly shows is on Friday, October 27.

Beauty and the Beast is a musical directed by Bill Condon based on Disney’s 1991 animated film, itself an adaptation of Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont’s 18th century fairy tale. The film’s cast includes Emma Watson, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson.

“We will welcome back all our regulars and new members,” added Margaret.

“If anyone is interested in becoming a committee member please visit www.filmforres.co.uk, where everyone can also check the screening details.”
