Gillies Munro an S6 student at the Academy and team mate Daniel Harris, a former pupil, competed at Hayling Island for seven days in the summer.
This accomplishment of winning second place means the team are now ranked second place in Britain and have accepted a place in the Youth GBR Squad.
Gillies said: “It’s been a really good summer. It’s been hard work training over the winter and it’s now paid off, thanks to our coach Matt Thomas.”
With this new commitment comes a contract and requirement to attend various events, one of which is the Euro Cup held in October in Lake Garda in Italy.
Gillies’ and Daniel’s commitment to sailing has also been recognised by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) who are supporting them as Elite Performance athletes this year. This means they are given support with travel as many of their events take place on the South Coast.
