Man found dead on train track near Forres

BRTISH Transport Police have confirmed that a man died yesterday after being struck by a train near Forres.

A spokesman said that at about 2pm Police responded to reports that a body was on the railway line near Forres Train Station.

He said that the body was male, but have not yet identified him, although lat night, comments were posted on local social media sites which speculated about who he was. 

The spokesman added: "There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, but we can confirm that his injuries are consistent with being struck by a train."

He said a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Pasengers who were travelling from Nairn to Forres who were held up on the train, told the ‘Gazette’ that they were given some information and informed that there was a body on the line.

One woman told the 'Gazette' that there was a sombre mood on the train afterwards, and passengers were well attended to, and given hot drinks, until they were able to continue with their journey.

The BT spokesman added: "Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and inform his family."
