I see that there was yet another case of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle on the A96 Forres bypass on Friday, September 16.
Fortunately the young woman involved did not suffer life threatening injuries. This latest incident does make me wonder how many more such incidents must occur before those in authority wake up to the fact that the citizens of Forres have been subjected to a very poor deal compared to the citizens of other nearby towns.
Since the railway station was cut off from the town in the eighties we have seen the creation of two retail outlets on the Greshop “industrial estate”.
Pedestrians can only access these services by crossing a trunk road which has a forty miles per hour speed limit.
Compare this with Keith where a set of traffic lights was put in place to stop the trunk road traffic in order to allow safe access to the Tesco store.
Compare Forres with Nairn where once again strict traffic control measures were placed on the trunk road, at the entrance to the new Sainsbury store.
Compare Forres with Elgin where the citizens have the choice of an underpass or traffic lights in order to safely cross the trunk road.
It does beg the question, what are our elected representatives doing to make sure that public services in Forres can be easily accessed by all our citizens and not only those who have cars.
George G. Alexander.
