The municipal election - The nomination meeting on Monday evening, fully reported in this issue, confirms the prediction made in our columns last week, all the retiring members of the Town Council being nominated, along with Mr Murdo Mackenzie, Parkville. It is seldom that such an excellent body of councillors falls to retire at one time, all of whom have gained public confidence by faithful service. The addition of the new candidate, who is independent and has tried qualifications, has rendered a poll inevitable and the issue of the contest will be watched with more than ordinary interest.
Morayshire Junior League and other competitions - On Saturday Forres Thistle were heavily beaten in this League by Elgin Rangers at Elgin, the score being 6 goals to nil.
Forres Mechanics are drawn at home against Elgin City in the competition for the Elginshire District Championship.
Next Saturday Forres Mechanics meet the Seaforths at Mosset Park here.
Forres Academy appointments - At a special meeting of Forres Burgh School Board on Friday - Dr Bruce, Chairman, presiding - Miss Jeannie Barclay, Cowfords, Banff, met the Board and was appointed to the staff of the infant department of the Academy in room of Miss Junor resigned.

The new houses - Rapid progress is being made with the houses in the Castlehill (East) Scheme, the single-storey dwellings having the roof couples fixed. The scheme is being built on some of the ancient feus of the burgh - long, narrow strips of land that run from High Street to South Bank Street (now Orchard Road), most of which were garden ground.
YMCA - At the "YM's" meeting on Sunday, Mr James Stephen presided and introduced Mr W. R. Bichan, Blinkbonny, who showed a colour film of the Orkney Islands, and scenes of the 1956 floods in Forres and of a recent Forres gala. Mr John Mackenzie, Market Street, proposed the vote of thanks. Next evening a social evening will be held.
Bingo reaches Dallas! - The tireless and popular secretary of the Houldsworth Institute, Mr Albert Strachan, has introduced another form of entertainment for his members. With "Cog" Mackenzie as caller, those who have joined in the newly-promoted venture are assured of a laugh and plenty of excitement. Those playing last week were most enthusiastic, especially those who were "in the money".

Dallas duo forge link - The small Moray village of Dallas is forging a link with a transatlantic namesake.
Not with Dallas, Texas, home of multi-millionaire oil moguls and the television Ewings, but with somewhere rather less grand - little ol' Dallas, North Carolina.
They were on a motoring tour of the British Isles when they came across Dallas, Moray, quite by chance.
Since their return home they have patently been extolling the virtues of the place, so much so that a local newspaper carried a full account of their visit, during which they were entertained to teas by the hospitable Dallas Community Association.
Come and go - It's a case of hello and goodbye at Forres Police Station, with one officer on his way to a new posting and another just arrived.
Leaving after more than two years is Constable John Dunbar, who has been posted to Keith. And recently arrived from the Scottish Police College at Tulliallan is Woman Police Constable Barbara Matches, who hails from Orkney.
