WHEN planning a holiday with your loved one, it's important to get it just right.
You want to make sure there's plenty do and see, but you also want to visit somewhere scenic and beautiful to set the mood; somewhere with quiet streets and intimate restaurants. A European city break is the perfect romantic getaway with plenty of monuments and attractions to explore and it is only a short flight away.
The most obvious destination for a romantic break is (of course!) Paris; the city of love, the Eiffel tower is a must-see (if only for the bonding experience of trekking up its 1665 steps), and the La Jules Verne restaurant on the middle floor has some of the most breath-taking views of the city, although it can get busy, the staff will do their best to find you a cosy table.
Next, head off for an evening stroll along the River Seine (a clear, starry night makes this experience very romantic), and if you want a little bit of culture, the Louvre will allow you to impress your other half with your art history... swotted up on the night before, of course.
For somewhere a little less obviously romantic (but still dreamy), Krakow is perfect, if only for the stunning architecture and friendliness of the locals. Wawel Castle is great for an afternoon learning about the history of this ancient city, and the stunning design of the castle itself will make for some fabulous holiday photos.
Go for stroll in the grounds or take the Royal Garden tour to see the lovingly-restored grounds, designed to look exactly as they did 500 years ago. And in the evening, have a romantic dinner for two in one of the many cafés that line the river banks of Wisla; local delicacy pierogi is an indulgent-but-delicious treat that you'll become addicted to in no time.
Thanks to airlines such as easyJet breaks to Krakow are becoming ever more popular. However, for the ultimate in passion look no further than Spain and specifically Barcelona: dancing, eating and sampling some of the local Sangria should help you capture some of that Latin passion for life.
Barcelona city breaks are usually pretty energetic, so snatch some quiet time on one of the Transbordador cable cars, which go right across the city and are easily the best way to admire some of the most beautiful architecture and sights on offer, as well as taking a well-earned break!
You can also explore one of the four main beaches, although be warned they are very popular and can get extremely busy during summer, so go in the early morning/evening to make the most of them.
Finally, if you want somewhere that's fashionable and hip, Dublin is a fantastic choice. This buzzing city has more shops, bars and restaurants than you could ever hope to cram into your trip, and the easy Irish charm of the locals is almost infectious.
Take in a show at the Gaiety Theatre (the oldest in the city), and fashionistas will love the Loft Market, perfect for vintage shopping and up-and-coming designers. If you don't try Guinness at least once during the trip, you've missed out. The Temple Bar district has the best options of beverages, from budget-friendly to upmarket luxury.
Wherever you choose for your romantic break, you want to have the best time possible. Daily flights across the continent with airlines such as easyJet city breaks have never been so affordable. Although of course, the only thing that really matters is the company you're with in the first place. Enjoy!
